The mission of the Highland City Arts Council is to promote and provide enrichment of all the arts, education and literacy for all ages in our community.  We are grateful for those who have served so faithfully on the board over the years. We have accomplished much and want to invite all those in Highland who have a similar goal in promoting the arts to join with us.   The Arts Council is currently looking for volunteers for fill the position of Vice Chairman, Publicity Specialist, and Graphics Design Specialist.  The Arts Council is a great way to serve your community in ways that encourages your creativity and love for the Arts.   For additional information or to volunteer, please call Emily Gillingwater at Highland City 756-5751 ext. 4523 or e-mail emily@highlandcity.org 


Art Council Classes

New Art of Organization Series! CREATIVE GIFTING:   Don't give Dad the same old tie.  Wouldn't Mom really enjoy a trip to the spa?  This class will feature fresh gift ideas for all members of the family for holidays or special occasions all throughout the year. Including Dad's Easy Chair Basket, Gourmet Cooking Bowl, Brides Bath Bouquet, Kid's Play School Kit and many more.  Instruction will include tips and how-to's for containers, fillers, wraps, etc. Class Instructor: Christine Tippetts is a mother of five, grandmother of ten and has over twenty-five years of experience making creativity a way of life. Christine offers valuable tips, tricks and tutorials for everything from organization to entertaining to make life easier for every mom across the valley. Organize your Life One Step at a Time, Part One: "Bed, Bath & Beyond":  If a complete organizational make-over is more than you can handle right now, then start with these small steps that will help you tackle the clutter or chaos in your life.  If you're already on your way to an organized life, come and learn some new ideas to help you streamline yourself and your home.  In Part One, we will learn how to bring order to bedrooms and bathrooms, tackle closets, even how to clean out your handbag.

Christmas Crafts Day

Come join us for Highland’s Annual Christmas Celebration & Crafts Day, December 6, 10:00-12:00 p.m. at the New City Hall!  We will have Christmas crafts and projects efor children as well as Christmas entertainment. Santa will be there too! Children’s craft projects ranging from free - .25, .50, or .75 will be available. We’ll have blankets to make for a service project. We will have a Christmas Storyteller in the new library! Highland Children's Choir

Highland Children's Choir Christmas Concert!  Come and hear the beautiful singing voices of Highland's Children celebrating Christmas.  The evening will be an unforgettable night of music!  Please join us December 17, 7:00 p.m. at the Provo Tabernacle.

2009 Arbor Day Story Writing Contest

The Arts Council will be heading up the Arbor Day Story Writing Contest in the spring of 2009. The theme of the Story Writing Contest is “My Favorite Tree”. The contest is  available to all fourth grade students.  School assemblies will be scheduled in April at Freedom Elementary, Highland Elementary, Ridgeline Elementary, and Westfield Elementary schools.  For more information, please contact your teacher. Home schooled and Highland residents attending school outside of Highland City may contact Emily Gillingwater at Highland City 756-5751 ext. 4523 or e-mail emily@highlandcity.org to get more information.

Children’s Theater

We would love to start an after school children’s theater classes throughout the school year. Our programs in the summer have been outstanding!  Please email kittietenney@gmail.com if you have an interest in these classes for your children. 
Highland Idol
 .
The Highland City Arts Council sponsored our second annual “Highland Idol” contest on Friday, August 1, 2008. This contest was held at Highland Heritage Park with over 30 contestants registered, 3 Highland “celebrity” judges, and a karaoke band “This is Your Band”.
 
Angie Haskell won the 19 and older division singing, "It Matters to Me." Wyatt Lenhart won in the 13-18 year division singing "A Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Alie Carter sang "Leave the Pieces" for her win in the 12 and under event.
 
Thank you to all who participated in this fabulous event. We sure have a lot of talent here in Highland! We look forward to next year’s contest which will be held at the Highland Fling on Saturday, August 1, 2009 on the Heritage Park Stage.
