Carroll family

DeMar Kartchner and Marjorie Helen Brady Carroll:  One of the many residents of Highland who came here to work at Geneva Steel was DeMar Carroll, who moved here in November, 1946.  He was born in Blanding, Utah, August 19, 1915, to Charles Moulton and Lydia Kartchner Carroll. Marjorie was born October 3, 1917 in Union, Utah to Curtis Warren and Blanche Eleanora Anderson Brady.  The couple met at a dance in Union in 1934 and were married June 13, 1936.

They are the parents of six children: Ronald, Kay, Dale, Kent, Karen and LaMar. Kay was killed in a car accident in 1966, at the age of 27, during his senior year at BYU.

They had a thirty acre farm (#100 on the 1958 Highland map) and raised tomatoes, hay, wheat, barley, strawberries, raspberries in addition to raising their own beef, pork, chicken, eggs, rabbits and milk cows.  They were very self-sustaining.  They also had a full court basketball floor and the boys all played for the American Fork High School team.

Marjorie’s brother Earl Warren Brady lived with them for a few years and was also employed at Geneva.  They later moved to American Fork where DeMar died March 19, 2002 and Marjorie died September 10, 2010.
