Ellsworth “Bud” and Barbara Lucille Malan Hardy:  Bud was born August 22, 1918 in Roy, Utah to Lewis Myron and Ella Maude Child Hardy.  He attended Ogden schools, graduating from Weber High in 1936.  He farmed with his brother for a while then moved to Farr West where operated a farm for George Taylor.

Lucille was born March 6, 1920 in Weber, Utah to Clarence Henry and Florence Irene Tracy Malan.  She also attended Ogden schools, graduating in 1938 from Ogden High.

Bud and Lucille were married December 5, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple and they had 9 children: Linda, Dennis, Kay, Barbara, Brent, Dale, Julia, Myron and Kenneth.  Myron died at birth.  They lived in Farr West, Ogden and Brigham City, then in August, 1945, when they had three children, Bud was drafted and was sent to Japan but while en route the war was ended so he was sent to the Island of Leyte.  He served there in the MP division until his discharge in January, 1946.  They then bought a farm and moved to Highland (#76 on the 1958 Highland map) in March of the same year.

They lived here for approximately fifteen years then moved to Idaho and later to Eden, Utah.  Five of their children were born here and their ninth child was born in Twin Falls, Idaho.

In Highland they were very active in Church-Bud was Superintendent of the YMMIA, Explorer Leader and Elder’s Quorum President.  In November, 1953 he was sustained as second counselor to Bishop Merlin Larson.  Later he served as a member of a Stake High Council, High Priest Group Leader and in another bishopric.  Barbara worked in the Primary as teacher to Sunbeams, Blazers and Trekkers and as first counselor to Marguerite Bunker and also on the Stake Primary Board.  Together they went on a mission to San Jose, California where Bud died September 4, 1988.  Lucille died August 3, 2001 and both are buried in the Hazelton, Idaho cemetery.
