The Recorder's Office is responsible for coordinating City Council meeting documents (agendas and minutes), and monitoring compliance with laws governing public meetings and City records. The City Recorder has the job of keeping the official record of all City Council actions, including resolutions, ordinances and minutes.
The Recorder's Office preserves historical records of the City and provides records research for the public. Other responsibilities encompass records management (including inactive records storage), maintenance and distribution of the City Code and distribution of the General Plan. All records are handled in accordance with the Government Records Access Management Act (GRAMA).
The City Recorder coordinates and administers the City’s Municipal Election and election related activities. This includes the recruiting, hiring, and training of election poll workers, and providing forms and general process information to the public.
The Recorders Office also handles business licensing and cemetery, including lot sales and burial arrangements.
