Niels Christen & Karen Kerstine Nelson Heiselt
Niels was born October 9, 1833, in Albaek, Hjorring, Denmark. Karen was born April 13, 1827, in Denmark. They were married on board the ship "Wm. Tapscott" in the Atlantic Ocean on April 17, 1859. They were the only Highland homesteaders who lived in Pleasant Grove. His 160 acres was on the east side of the bench, just north of James Pullen's property and east of Edward Winn (Number 73 on the 1958 Highland map). In his homestead proof affidavit he says he established residence on his property in March 1975, built a three room adobe house and lived there continuously from that time until February 3, 1883, the date of the affidavit.


The Heiselts had four children, all born in Pleasant Grove: Niels Hansen, Joseph, Hyrum and Christian Adoelph. Niels died September 30, 1898, in Pleasant Grove and Karen died April 27, 1906. They are buried in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
