Johannes John Henri & Mary Jane Pickering van Steeter
John was born August 18, 1864, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands to Hendrik and Alyda Anna Gorneffer van Steeter and Mary was born in June 16, 1870, in Salt Lake City to Henry John and Mary Ann Lemon Pickering. In 1880 she was living in Peoa, Utah Territory with her parents and five siblings. John migrated to Utah in 1867 or 1868 and the couple was married February 2, 1885. Their daughter and only child, Libbie was born in November 1888.
They purchased the homestead of Harry and Evaline Savill in 1896 (Number 5 on the 1958 Highland map). They appear in Highland on the 1900 census. They sold the property to Rufus Stice in 1906. John died in December 1, 1949, in Salt Lake at age 85 and Mary died May 15, 1962, just before her 92nd birthday. They are buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
