Fee Changes Starting July 1, 2019

On Tuesday, June 18, City Council approved fee changes on your monthly utility bill. See the link for a summary. If you have any further questions about these changes, please call us at 801-756-5751.

First Garbage Can Fee – increased $0.05 to $9.40 per month AND
Recycling Can Fee – increased $0.65 to $5.10 per month

The cost to provide these services has increased. If the can fees were not increased, the City would have been paying more to provide these cans than residents would have been paying to use them. The rates for these items have been structured so that residents’ costs equal the City’s costs.

Public Safety Fee – added $11.50 per month
In order to maintain the current level of Fire and EMS protection and to recruit and retain quality Police Officers, Highland's budget for Lone Peak Public Safety District increased by $701,000. The fee is a result of a number of open houses, research, and discussion. It is expected to generate $641,000 per year and will be dedicated to Public Safety Funding. The remaining $60,000 will be taken out of City reserves. This fee will sunset in 2028 when the City's bonds will be paid off.
